Basil Rajapaksa to enter Parliament on 6th – Lankadeepa

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa is set to be sworn-in as a member of Parliament on the 6th of July, the Lankadeepa reported.

Rajapaksa returned to Sri Lanka yesterday after a visit to the United State of America.

Political sources said upon being sworn-in as a Parliamentarian, Basil Rajapaksa will thereafter take oaths as the Minister of Finance and Economic Development before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Basil Rajapaksa is set to enter Parliament under the National List seat of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

SLPP MP Ranjith Bandara will reportedly voluntarily vacate his Parliament seat, in order for Basil Rajapaksa to be appointed as a member of Parliament.

It is also expected that the fuel prices that were recently increased will be reduced between Rs. 5-7 for petrol and Rs. 3- 5 for diesel after Rajapaksa assumes duty as a Cabinet Minister, the Lankadeepa reported.

Basil Rajapaksa served as the Minister of Economic Affairs during the Rajapaksa regime from 2010-2015. (NewsWire)
