The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has made 06-demands from the President, including reversing the decision to increase fuel prices and the ban imposed on the import of organic fertilizer.

The request has been made ahead of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s address to the nation at 8.30 pm today.

SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa revealed details of the requests during a media briefing held at the party headquarters today (25).

The Opposition Leader said his party has objected to the arbitrary decisions of the Government, along with the people, and the protests will continue.

The SJB has called on the President to resolve the six key issues faced by the public at present.

MP Sajith Premadasa further said he hopes the President will address the key issues in his special statement to be delivered to the nation tonight.

The six key demands made by the SJB are as follows:

  • To reduce fuel prices to their former levels.
  • To change the use of fertilizer according to a plan and provide sufficient stocks of fertilizer to farmers free of charge for upcoming harvest seasons.
  • To prepare a solid program of subsidiary provision for damages caused to fishermen by the X-press Pearl disaster and to re-conserve the ecosystem affected due to the disaster.
  • To provide immediate solutions to children affected by the lack of online educational facilities.
  • To take appropriate steps to restrain the outbreak of the Covid epidemic, by expediting the vaccination process, providing required protective equipment to health sectors, enhancing hospital facilities, and increasing the number of PCR tests.
  • To provide financial concessions to people in order to rebuild the already collapsed livelihoods of the public. (NewsWire)
