Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has called for a report from the team manager to verify the authenticity of a video currently circulating on social media showing Sri Lankan cricketers Niroshan Dickwella and Kusla Mendis roaming the streets of Durham on Sunday night (27).

The Sri Lankan national team is currently in England under a bio-bubble as part of the ongoing cricket tournament and are set to play the first ODI in Durham tomorrow (29).

Many cricket fans have taken to social media to criticise the behaviour of the cricketers at a time when they have lost all T20I matches against England.

“Familiar faces in Durham tonight, enjoying their tour! Obviously not here to play cricket, this video was taken at 23.28 Sunday. Disappointing performance by these cricket players but not forgetting to enjoy their night at Durham,” a Sri Lankan cricket fan commented, posting the video on Facebook.

“Many Sri Lankan fans are excited to support the Sri Lankan team on Tuesday at Durham and have made plans to travel across England to watch the game. But unfortunately these clowns are NOT here to serve the Sri Lanka cricket and the fans,” the Sri Lankan fan further said.

Meanwhile, a senior official from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said an investigation has been launched into the matter and it will be ascertained if the cricketers had breached the bio-bubble and hotel curfew.

The official further said stern action will be taken against the cricketers, if they are found guilty, only after verifying the authenticity of the video circulated on social media. (NewsWire)
