A player from a group of senior Sri Lanka cricketers who were training separately for the upcoming India series has tested positive.

According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources, batsman Sandun Weerakkodi has tested positive for Covid.

Sandun Weerakkodi was with the 15 senior cricketers who were training in Colombo while lodging at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo.

Sandun Weerakkodi along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and several other cricketers were sent to Dambulla last night to play practice matches ahead of the India series.

The entire squad at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel which includes players Asela Guneratne, Angelo Perera, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa will now have to undergo quarantine.

There is another group of 24 cricketers in a separate bubble in Dambulla and SLC says they are not affected.

The squad was being prepared as an alternate Sri Lanka squad to play India, as the National Team is under quarantine after two coaching staff tested positive for Covid upon their return to the country from the recently concluded England tour. (NewsWire)
