10 districts identified as dengue hot spots

Ten districts, including Colombo, have been identified as dengue hot spots in Sri Lanka. 

A high number of dengue cases have been reported from the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Matara, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Galle, and Hambantota Districts. 

Health authorities said there is a significant increase in the number of dengue cases reported in 2021, in comparison to last year (2020). 

A total of 16, 497 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, while 2,997 cases were reported in June and 3,029 cases have been reported so far in July. 

The health authorities said 70% of the dengue cases reported in the country have been detected in the Western Province. 

They further warned there could be an increase in dengue cases at present due to the prevalent rainy weather currently experienced in the country. (NewsWire)
