Several issues highlighted at Sports Minister’s discussion with cricketers

A discussion chaired by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa on the future course of Sri Lanka’s cricket has been held with the participation of several former cricketers.

Former Sri Lanka captains Sanath Jaysuriya, Micheal Tissera, Ranjan Madugalle, Sidath Wettamuni and Aravinda De Silva, and current test captain Dimuth Karunaratne were among those who had attended the meeting.

According to sources, the need to implement a short term plan to win matches, and the present situation and future of Sri Lanka’s cricket were taken up for discussion.

Citing the recent losses of the current Sri Lanka national team, several former captains had also raised concerns and questioned the current selection policies.

Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne had also highlighted several issues, including the various issues faced by the players at present.

Commenting on the discussion, Minister Namal Rajapaksa tweeted that a fruitful discussion was held with current and former Sri Lanka Cricket Presidents, captains, administrators, and players together with the committee.

He further said it was agreed to continue the dialogue and work together in driving Sri Lanka’s cricket towards a common objective.

The Sports Minister had also promised to address the issues highlighted during the discussion. (NewsWire)
