IUSF protest: OIC injured, FSP Administrative Secretary arrested

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Maharagama Police Station has sustained serious injuries during the protest march that was conducted in the vicinity of the Parliament yesterday.

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) had staged a protest march against the Kotelawala National Defence University (KNDU).

A tense situation had erupted after the protesters had reached the Parliament entry road in Jayanthipura, Battaramulla.  

The Police said the OIC of the Maharagama Police Station had fractured his two fingers and had also sustained several other injuries during the incident.

He had been injured as the protesters had attempted to topple the metal barricades set up by the Police to prevent the protest march from continuing further. 

The injured Police officer has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital where he is currently being treated. 

Meanwhile, the Administrative Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party  (FSP) Chameera Koswatta and another individual have been arrested in connection to the protest.

The Police said they have been arrested for committing several offences during their protest march carried out yesterday. (NewsWire)
