The Government has decided to establish a new institution to manufacture Liquid Gas under the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to provide gas at a reasonable price to the public.

According to Ada Derana, the decision in this regard had been taken during the Cabinet meeting held this week.

The CPC manufactures nearly 5% of Sri Lanka’s Liquid Gas and provides it to the state-owned Litro Gas Lanka and private entity Laufgs Gas PLC for distribution.

The Minister of Energy has already implemented preliminary measures with regard to the construction of the proposed new oil refinery with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day at Sapugaskanda.

The CPC said following the completion of the construction of the new oil refinery, it will help produce nearly 20% of the country’s gas requirements. (NewsWire)
