Reporters Without Borders has called for the immediate release of political journalist Keerthi Ratnayake.

The organization said Ratnayake, who was a writer for Lanka-e-news, was unfairly ordered to spend 90-days in jail under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

He was reportedly detained on charges of providing fake intelligence information to the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka over a possible attack.

Ratnayake was arrested on 14 August, while the Police had seized his laptop, mobile phone, and pen drives at his house without search warrants, Reporters Without Borders said.

Stating that the journalist was not allowed to talk to his family or to contact a lawyer, it added that he is now being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Colombo. (NewsWire)
