The Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunwardena has granted permission for bookshops to operate during the existing quarantine curfew.

The move comes after Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne had called on the Director-General of Health Services to issue guidelines to operate bookshops during the curfew.

In a letter to Dr. Gunawardena, the IGP pointed out that the continuous closure of bookshops has caused inconvenience to the public, especially school children.

The IGP, therefore, had requested the Director-General of Health Services to grant permission to open bookshops during the quarantine curfew and to also issue the necessary health guidelines in this regard.

Following Dr. Asela Gunawardena’s approval, the IGP has informed all area Police station that bookshops have been permitted to operate during the curfew. (NewsWire)
