Three (03) persons who had operated the ferry that had collapsed in the Kinniya Lagoon in Trincomalee yesterday have been arrested.

The Police said the owner of the ferry and two people who had operated the ferry have been thus arrested.

Six people, including school children, were killed in the incident, while 17 others were hospitalized.

Meanwhile, State Minister Nimal Lanza informed Parliament today that all Government institutions had rejected permission for the ferry service to be operated in Kinniya.

He further said that, however, the chairman of the Kinniya Urban Council had issued a permit to an individual to transport passengers across the Kuringankerni lagoon. (NewsWire)
