Mahinda Samarasinghe steps down from Parliamentary post

Ruling party Parliamentarian Mahinda Samarasinghe today handed over his letter of resignation as a Member of Parliament.

MP Samarasinghe handed over his letter of resignation to the Secretary-General of Parliament.

Mahinda Samarasinghe is set to assume duties as the Sri Lanka Ambassador to the United States and Mexico. 

Earlier this month, he revealed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had requested him to take up the position, and he had accepted the request.

Samarasinghe had also stated that he will leave for the United State of America on the 29th of November.

He revealed that it was important for Sri Lanka to be present at the United Nations Human Rights Council, at a time when the United States of America is to sit at the UNHRC as a member from 2022. (NewsWire)
