President leaves the country on a private visit

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has reportedly left the island this morning on a personal visit.

According to The Sunday Morning, the President’s spokesperson Kingsley Rathnayake said the President’s travel itinerary and purpose of travel cannot be revealed as yet.

“The President will be travelling out of the island today, but due to reasons, I cannot reveal the final destination or the purpose of travel. But, he will be travelling today,” Rathnayake confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror reported that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country for Singapore this morning on a private visit.

Quoting sources, the report said the President is likely to have left the island to undergo a medical check-up.

Prior to his departure, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued a Gazette notification last night proroguing Parliament from midnight yesterday (12). 

As per the Gazette notification, Parliament has been prorogued until 18th January 2022.  (NewsWire)
