One-hour power cut announced under 4 categories today – CEB Engineers

January 24, 2022 at 1:17 PM

A one-hour power cut will be imposed today, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers’ Union has announced.

Secretary to the Union Dhammika Wimalaratne said the power disruption will take place between 5.30 pm – 09.30 pm.

He said Manual Load Shedding will commence from 5.30 pm due to the unavailability of the Sapugaskanda power plant.

Dhammika Wimalaratne further said that the power cut will be imposed under the following four categories:

Group A: from 17:30hrs to 18:30hrs

Group B: from 18:30hrs to 19:30hrs

Group C: from 19:30hrs to 20:30hrs

Group D: from 20:30hrs to 21:30hrs

The CEB Engineers’ Union has been repeatedly warning of power cuts due to a lack of fuel to operate the necessary power plants to generate electricity.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is unable to provide the necessary fuel to the CEB due to the shortage of US Dollars in Sri Lanka.

The shortage of Dollars has resulted in Sri Lanka being unable to purchase fuel that is required for the generation of power.

Several parts of the country have been experiencing long spells of power cuts over the last few days. (NewsWire)
