The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, has refused to accept the investigations being carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) into the incident of a hand grenade being found at the All Saints’ Church in Borella.

Speaking to Sri Lankan Catholic expatriates over the weekend, the Archbishop said evidence are being carried out by the Police and the church will not accept such deeds as it is being gathered by threatening people.

He further said the church will carry out its own struggle to find the truth behind the hand grenade case.

Commenting on the 2019 Easter attacks, the Archbishop said as all efforts made in Sri Lanka to find the truth have failed international assistance will be sought in this regard.

Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said he will obtain the assistance of foreign Catholic Bishops, diplomatic missions, and the United Nations for this purpose.

Stating that the attacks were a clear example of political manipulation, he said despite knowing the exitance of a group of terror minded youngsters, they had been allowed to act without being prevented.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, the Spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Colombo criticised the Public Security Minister for his recent comments on the hand grenade investigation.

Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando said the Minister had stated that the same person who was involved in the hand grenade incident at a private hospital in Narahenpita was connected to the All Saints’ Church incident.

He said the Minister has made the revelation even before a statement had been recorded from the retired doctor who was arrested as the key suspect in the incident. (NewsWire)
