GCE A/L exam: Request from Education Minister

January 31, 2022 at 11:31 AM

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and power-related institutions have been requested to refrain from imposing power cuts during the 2021 GCE Advanced Level Examination, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena said.

The GCE Advanced Level Examination 2021 will be held from 7th February to 5th March 2022.

Minister Gunawardena said the request has been made taking into consideration the difficulties that will be faced by the students in the event of a power cut during the examination period.

The CEB and the Public Utilities Commission have assured that there will be no more power cuts as the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has provided the necessary fuel to generate power.

Earlier, scheduled power cuts were to be imposed for over one hour daily due to the CEB not having the necessary fuel to generate power.

The CPC was unable to provide the necessary fuel as it was unable to purchase the fuel due to the dollar shortage in the country.

Meanwhile, the petition filed at the Court of Appeal calling for the 2021 GCE Advanced Level Examination to be postponed by 20 weeks will be taken up for hearing tomorrow (1st  February).

The petition was filed by public interest activist Nagananda Kodithuwakku, who claimed it was unfair for the children to sit for the examination due to the inconsistent academic process followed due to the Covid pandemic. (NewsWire)
