Legal action if power cut today

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has not requested permission for scheduled power cuts today, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) announced.

Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake said if any disruptions occur then action will be taken as per the provision of the Electricity Act.

The warning comes after certain areas across the country experienced a power disruption for a few minutes today.

Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila yesterday assured a continuous supply of fuel to the CEB for a week.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake confirmed that the Minister has promised a continuous supply of fuel for a week temporarily resolving the power crisis.

The assurance came after several areas experienced power disruptions on Tuesday (01) due to the third generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai breaking down again due to a technical fault.

However, the generator had been rectified and was also reconnected to the National Grid. (NewsWire)
