The National Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a Gazette notification announcing the removal of two symbols from the list of symbols not allotted to political parties.

The symbols that have been removed from the said list are that of a crown and a farmer.

The two symbols were earlier included in the list of symbols under the category of “not allotted to political parties” and were included in a Gazette that was published in January.

A senior official from the National Election Commission told NewsWire that the two symbols were removed from the list as they are synonymous with national symbols.

The official further said that due to this reason, the Commission was of the view that it should not be allocated as a symbol for a political party and will not be permitted to be used by any political party of the country in the future as well.
