The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has suspended the employment of a TV presenter over a social media post criticizing the President.

Parami Nilepna Ranasinghe has been suspended from service with immediate effect.

The SLRC has suspended the TV presenter for sharing a post criticizing President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on her personal Facebook account, Free Media Movement said in a statement.

Parami Nilepna Ranasinghe has confirmed her suspension, stating that the post on the President on social media has been cited as the reason.

Meanwhile, Minister of Media Dullus Alahapperuma is yet to comment on the TV presenter’s suspension.

However, the Free Media Movement has condemned the decision taken by the SLRC to suspend Parami Nilepna Ranasinghe.

Issuing a statement, the movement said it was a violation of Freedom of Expression and the fundamental rights of the TV presenter.

The Free Media Movement further said that this was a blatant attempt to control media freedom in Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
