Groom killed after wedding in Slave Island

A clash at a wedding ceremony that was held at Dawson Street, Slave Island has resulted in the death of the groom.

The former husband of the bride is said to have slit the throat of the groom during the clash. 

The suspect has been apprehended by the Police over the murder that had taken place last night. 

The deceased has been identified as Mohamad Shabdeen, a 51-year-old who had been employed as a three-wheel driver. 

According to the Police, the victim had registered his marriage last evening and had arrived at his residence for a ceremony held at his home.

The suspect is reported to have arrived at the ceremony around 10.00 pm and had engaged in an argument with the groom, during which he had slit the victim’s throat with a paper cutter. 

The Police said the victim had died while being transported to the Colombo National Hospital. 

The suspect who had fled the area following the incident has been apprehended after surrendering to the Slave Island Police this morning. (NewsWire)
