Energy Minister’s update on coal & fuel stocks

The unloading of coal from two vessels has begun following the payment of US$ 38 million, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said today.

Minister Wijesekera said the two vessels contained 120,000 Metric Tonnes of coal.

He further said that with these vessels the coal requirement before the monsoon deadline is fulfilled.

The Minister added that the unloading of two more consignments of Jet fuel and Diesel has also commenced.

The unloading of coal and fuel is taking place amidst a severe fuel shortage and long spells of power cuts in Sri Lanka.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has also assured the public of the safety of fuel browsers and trains.

He further called on the public to cooperate in the islandwide supply of fuel.  (NewsWire)
