Sri Lanka reverses decision to lift wearing face masks outdoors

The Ministry of Health has reversed its earlier decision pertaining to face masks.

Newly-appointed Minister of Health Professor Channa Jayasumana announced that wearing face masks in public will not be mandatory from 18th April.

He said, but, face masks should be worn during public transport and indoor functions.

However, the Health Ministry today issued a new statement reversing the Minister’s earlier announcement.

The Ministry said considering the large public gatherings currently taking place in the country, lifting of the mandatory requirement to wear face masks has been temporarily suspended.

The Health Ministry further said that face masks should be worn outdoors as practiced earlier.
