Another proposal on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was handed over to the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today.

The proposal was jointly submitted by the independent group of MPs in Parliament consisting of Parliamentarians from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), and the 10 constituent parties of the Government.

MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa handed over the proposal as a Private Member’s Bill to the Speaker of the Parliament.

He submitted the proposal on behalf of the 40 MPs from the ruling party who became independent in Parliament recently over the current national crisis in the country.

The independent group’s proposal on the 21st Amendment calls for the 20th Amendment to be repealed and for the 19th Amendment to be reintroduced.
