The Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters who had gathered on the Parliament entry road near the Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla.

The Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) ended its protest march last evening at the location.

Despite the Police firing tear gas to disperse the protesters last evening as well, they resisted, eventually setting up a new protest site.

Several members of the public thereafter joined the IUSF protest in the night and this morning, with large numbers gathering at the location.

A display of male and female underwear were also displayed on the barricades that had been set up by the Police preventing entry to the road leading to the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

The protesters have been calling on the President and government to resign over the current national and economic crisis in the country. (NewsWire)
