Former Minister Ali Sabry says he will never serve in Parliament again, expressing dismay at the state of the country, in terms of politics as well as the economic crisis.

Addressing Parliament today, he said the current income of the country is Rs. 1.4 trillion, while the expense is Rs. 3.4 trillion.

The MP said staging protests and making announcements, or cutting the privileges of MPs will not resolve the current crisis.

Ali Sabry, however, called on the Parliamentarians to pave the way for the next generation, from which a good person who loves the nation and had dutifully paid their taxes would be able to enter Parliament in the future.

“I will never look at this Parliament again, I do not need it. We did not enter Parliament to see such circumstances. I will never come back again,” he lashed out at the House.

Pointing out that when the house of Puttalam MP Ali Sabry Raheem was attacked by mobs, several of his own law colleagues and relatives had supported the incident via social media, the former minister questioned how the country can move forward with such a brutal society.

“I have not come here to wage a war. I am afraid for my children and my parents. We have not stolen even 5 cents or engaged in any form of fraud. I have paid nearly Rs. 42 million as income tax over the last five years prior to taking up a ministerial post,” Sabry further said.

He said that even though it is delayed, at least now all parties must work together to build and take forward Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
