Patali leaves SJB alliance

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Patali Champika Ranawaka has announced that he will function as an independent MP in Parliament from today.

The SJB Colombo District Parliamentarian said thereby, that he will be quitting the SJB-led alliance.

Speaking in Parliament today, MP Ranawaka said he had informed the SJB leader MP Sajith Premadasa in writing of his decision 03-days ago. 

Stating that both the ruling party and opposition must act with responsibility at present, the MP said currently, he can provide more support by functioning as an independent Parliamentarian. 

MP Patali Champika Ranawaka also refuted media reports claiming that he has taken this decision in order to accept a ministerial portfolio from the government.

“I vehemently refute such reports. There is no truth to such reports. I hold no intention of accepting any ministerial portfolio from this government,” he said. 

The Parliamentarian said he expects a change in government and one that is an all-party interim government.

MP Ranawaka also vowed that he will never act in a manner that will betray the nation or its people. (NewsWire)
