Sri Lanka has received a positive response from Malaysia to purchase fuel, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera revealed.
He said a request was made from the Malaysian Prime Minister in order to purchase fuel for Sri Lanka.
Addressing the media yesterday (03), the Minister said that 50,000 Metric Tonnes of petrol and 10,000 Metric Tonnes of kerosene are expected to be purchased from Malaysia.
Minister Wijesekera said that the government of Sri Lanka must make a payment for the first two shipments of fuel.
As it has proven difficult to find the necessary vessels, a decision has been taken to split the shipment of petrol into two consignments of 30,000 and 20,000 MT each and transport it via two small ships, he explained.
The Minister said that the government hopes to finalize the deal soon as possible to obtain the necessary fuel. (NewsWire)
