The Ministry of Foreign Employment has decided to allow only those who have sent dollars to the country through legal channels to return overseas for employment sent via the Government.

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said legal provisions will be formed to permit Sri Lankan migrant workers to return overseas for employment based on the sum of their remittances done thus far and only if it is made through official banking channels.

He also said steps are also being taken to obtain Cabinet approval to allow Sri Lankan migrant workers to import vehicles based on their remittances.

The tax relief provided to Sri Lankan migrant workers to shop duty-free at airports will be further increased, while other reliefs such as for house construction and self-employment will also be provided based on their remittances.

The Minister made the announcement when providing air tickets to a group of female Sri Lankan migrant workers who are set to leave for Israel for employment. (NewsWire)
