The aircraft believed to be carrying Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the Maldives is reported to have landed in Singapore.

According to the AFP, a plane carrying Sri Lanka’s president arrived in Singapore from the Maldives Thursday, a day after he escaped to the island nation.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his wife Ioma and their two bodyguards are reported to be on board the Saudia airline plane, which landed at Singapore’s Changi Airport at 7:17 pm local time.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives yesterday following a public uprising calling for his resignation over Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.

Despite stating that he will tender his resignation on 13th July, the President fled to the Maldives and thereafter reportedly flew to Singapore today, where he is said to have sought asylum. (NewsWire)
