President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is yet to hand in his letter of resignation, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said today.
The Speaker said that he is yet to receive the resignation letter of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was expected to hand in his resignation yesterday as announced earlier.
The President fled to the Maldives last morning following the public uprising in Sri Lanka yesterday, demanding his resignation and that of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It was reported that the President is set to leave for Singapore where he has allegedly claimed asylum after which he would hand in his resignation.
However, foreign media reports that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is yet to fly out of the Maldives to Singapore.
It is reported that the President was unable to board the plane due to security concerns and is reportedly awaiting a private aircraft to fly to Singapore. (NewsWire)
