The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) youth wing has decided to vote for the candidate nominated by the SLPP during the election of a new President.
Chairman of the SLPP youth wing MP D.V. Chanaka said that the decision was taken during the group’s Central Working Committee meeting.
“All members of the youth wing have agreed to the decision of the SLPP to support Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said.
Earlier, the SLPP announced that it will support the nomination of Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe for the post of President.
SLPP MP Dinesh Gunawardena today nominated Ranil Wickremesinghe for the presidency, while it was seconded by MP Manusha Nanayakkara during the special Parliament proceeding today.
However, an SLPP- faction backed by MP G.L. Peiris and Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has also nominated SLPP MP Dullas Alahapperuma for the post of President.
