First protester to enter President’s Office on July 9 arrested

An individual identified as the first to breakthrough into the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo has been arrested by the Colombo North Criminal Investigations Department Unit. 

According to the Police, the man had been arrested based on investigations into the illegal entry and damage of property at the Presidential Secretariat during the public protest on 09th July 2022. 

The arrested suspect has been identified as a 38-year-old resident of Parana Para, Pannipitiya. 

Investigations have revealed that the man had been in possession of a knife and had threatened that he will slit his throat when security officials had attempted to block him from breaking into the Presidential Secretariat. 

The Police said his act had enabled other protesters to break through the security barricades and enter the Presidential Secretariat.
