Limited fuel supply : Update from President

August 3, 2022 at 11:35 AM

President Ranil Wickremesinghe says the distribution of fuel will be limited till the end of this year.

He made the statement while delivering the policy of the Government in Parliament on Wednesday, August 3.

Commenting on the fuel imports, the President said it is essential to initiate a system for such importation from Sri Lanka’s own export income and foreign remittances.

“Presently, the immediate requirement before us is fuel. While appreciating the international assistance in addressing the fuel shortage, it is time that we now initiate a system for such importation from our own export income and foreign remittances. We also have to limit selected imports in order to balance the payments for fuel. On the other hand, the fuel supply has to be curtailed. These hardships would need to be borne until the end of this year,” he said.

The President also said that imports of non-essential items will continue to be limited.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe further said through long-term economic policies Sri Lanka can become a developed nation. (NewsWire)
