Activist jailed for using mobile phone while in remand

Galle Face protester Danish Ali has been sentenced to jail over the offence of using a mobile phone while in remand custody.

Ali had pleaded guilty for the offence before the Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday.

Media spokesman of the Prisons Department Chandana Ekanayake said thereby he has been sentenced to 14 days in prison and will be moved to the Welikada prison.

Danish Ali was sentenced to prison and remanded at the Colombo magazine Prison by the Fort Magistrate’s Court on 27th July.

However, he was charged with using a mobile phone while in prison and was produced in court today over the offence. (NewsWire)
