Missing Sri Lankans at CG Games : UK police unable to act

11 Sri Lankans are reported to have disappeared so far from the Commonwealth Games that were held in Birmingham in England.

According to the British Police, according to the country’s law, no legal action could be taken against the athletes and officials as they have not violated any visa conditions.

The British Police located the first three that had disappeared, a Judoka, a Judo official, and a wrestler.

They said no action was taken against the three Sri Lankans as they had not violated local laws and held visas valid for six months.

Action could only be taken if the Sri Lankans overstay and thereby violate their visa conditions, the British Police had revealed.

A Sri Lankan official told AFP that the British Police had made them return the passports that we being held as a deterrent against defections.

The official further said the management could take necessary disciplinary action, but the Police cannot take legal action just yet. (NewsWire)
