Sri Lankan businessman shot dead in the Philippines

A Sri Lankan businessman was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on a busy street in Cotabato City In the Philippines on Thursday (08).

Capt. Kenneth Rosales, Cotabato City police station 1 commander, identified the victim as Mohamed Rifard Mohamed Siddeek, 46, of Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Col. Querubin Manalang Jr., Cotabato City police chief, said a manhunt operation is ongoing.

Rosales said Siddeek just got off from his white minivan on Don Rufino Alonzo Ave. in Barangay Poblacion Mother when a man approached him and opened fire.

The gunman quickly fled on board a motorcycle driven by an accomplice.

Police found empty shells of caliber .45 pistol at the scene.

The victim is believed to be engaged in the money lending business. (Philippine News Agency)
