Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has returned to social media after he went silent since fleeing Sri Lanka in July due to anti-government protests.

Taking to Twitter, Rajapaksa extended his wishes to the Sri Lankan national team on their win in the Asia Cup 2022 final against Pakistan.

“Congratulations to the #lka cricket team on the win against #Pakistan in the #AsiaCup2022Final in Dubai. The commitment and teamwork shown by the #SriLankan team have been remarkable. @OfficialSLC,” he Tweeted.

This is the first message on social media by the former Head of State of Sri Lanka who was forced to leave the country due to protests against him over the economic crisis.

According to reports, the comments section on the former President’s official Facebook profile which was earlier blocked in May is now open for comments.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s official Facebook profile had blocked its comments section after social media users shared their displeasure over his regime amidst economic hardships. (NewsWire)
