Three women have been arrested at the Katunayake airport for attempting to smuggle gold, mobile phones, and mobile phone accessories to Sri Lanka.
The suspects who had arrived in Sri Lanka early last morning were arrested following a special raid conducted by the Airport Police based on a tip-off.
The Police seized 03 gold chains weighing 719.940 grams each, 163 smartphones, 695 mobile phones, 414 mobile phone chargers, and 810 mobile phone batteries from the suspects’ possession.
The three women aged 35, 40, and 48 are residents of the Giriulla, Marawila, and Hambantota areas.
They have been handed over to Sri Lanka Customs for further investigations. (NewsWire)
