The Chamber of Cosmetic Industry has called on the government of Sri Lanka to lift the temporary ban imposed on the import of cosmetic items.

Issuing a statement, the CCI said the cost of imports of cosmetics as per Sri Lanka Customs data does not exceed 0.1% of the total import bill for both 2021 and 2022 (1st Jan 2021 – 31st July 2022).

The Chamber of Cosmetic Industry pointed out that the temporary ban on the import of cosmetic items has also severely affected several cosmetic-related industries that could generate foreign exchange for the country.

Thereby, the CCI called on the government to consider lifting the temporary ban in view of the upcoming festive seasons of Christmas and New Year.
