The opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has requested the National Election Commission to take the necessary steps to immediately hold the Local Government Elections.
SJB MP Nalin Bandara said a group of party members had visited the Election Commission today to put forward their request.
MP Bandara added that according to Sri Lanka’s election laws, the National Election Commission is now vested with the powers to hold the local government elections at any time as the necessary time period has lapsed.
MP Bandara was accompanied by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, and MPs Tissa Attanayake and S.M. Marikkar. (NewsWire)
