The Core Group on Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has presented a new resolution calling for promoting reconciliation, accountability, and human rights in Sri Lanka.

The resolution has been tabled by the core Group on Sri Lanka comprising Canada, Germany, Malawi, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The new draft titled “Promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka” gives the Government more time to address human rights-related issues.

The draft text requests the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to enhance its monitoring and reporting on the situation of human rights in Sri Lanka, including on progress in reconciliation and accountability, and on the human rights impact of the economic crisis and corruption.
