A 2-year-old child from the Kanatthewewa area in Wariyapola has died after being infected with rabies.
A rabid dog had bitten the said child on the 3rd of September and also bitten the domestic dog at her residence.
Following suspicion that the dog must have been a rabid dog, the parents of the child had taken her to the Wariyapola hospital to get the vaccine.
However, after being informed that the rabies vaccine is not available at the Wariyapola hospital, her parents have taken the child to the Nikaweratiya hospital and got 3 doses on the 4th, 7th, and 11th of September.
While another dose was pending, the child’s condition deteriorated in the meantime and she had been admitted to the Nikaweratiya hospital on the 21st of September.
After being diagnosed as being infected with rabies, the child died on the 23rd of September. (NewsWire)
