Unit 03 of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has been shut down due to a steam leak, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera revealed on Tuesday.
In a Twitter message, he said the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has informed that maintenance work is estimated to take between 03 to 05 days.
Fuel Power Plants will be utilized to manage the power generation until the repair work is completed, he added.
Earlier today, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) warned daily power cuts may need to be extended due to the shutting down of the 3rd unit of the Norochcholai plant.
The PUCSL said that the exact schedule of the power cuts will be announced soon.
The daily power cuts were extended from 01- hour to 02 hours and 20 minutes recently. (NewsWire)
