The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has intervened to prevent the marriage of an underage child in the Angulana area in Moratuwa.
The Police had arrested the groom during the wedding ceremony that was held at a wedding reception hall in Moratuwa.
The NCPA had intervened together with the Police based on a tip-off received via its emergency hotline 1929.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the bride was 15 years old while the groom was 19 years old.
The groom who was arrested by the Police has been released on Police bail, while the underage bride has been admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila for a medical examination. (NewsWire)
