A 49-year-old man from Bandaragama has been arrested by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division for illegally earning money via drug operations.
An investigation launched by the Division found a woman from Waskaduwa using her personal mobile number to operate an eZ Cash Power Vault account to collect illegally earned money.
Transactions of over Rs.10.4 million have been conducted via the woman’s eZ Cash Power Vault account from 2019 to 2020, while it is reported that over Rs. 8.1 million had been retrieved via the account.
Further investigations have revealed that the money retrieved by the woman is money that had been earned via drug operations carried out by her husband.
Thereby, the Illegal Assets Investigation Division arrested the woman’s husband yesterday (10).
The suspect will be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today, while the Illegal Assets Investigation Division is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
