The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island during the evening or night today.
Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm can be expected at some places in the Uva, Eastern and Northcentral provinces.
Several spells of showers will occur in the coastal areas of the Western province and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
For sea areas, the department said showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambanthota to Pottuvil will be fairly rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
