Today’s protest : Police issues letter giving reasons why no permission given

The Police Department has issued a letter to several political parties and civil society groups who were planning to stage a mass protest this afternoon, that permission will not be granted by the law enforcement agency for the protest to proceed near the Fort Railway Station, News First reported.

The letter, issued by the Colombo Central Division 1 Police Superintendent K. A. E. N Dilruk had been delivered by hand on Tuesday.

According to News Frist, the Police have confirmed that such a letter was dispatched.

The letter states that during the period of the planned protest roads in Colombo may be blocked, and therefore it may pose obstructions to the public and private office staff who are heading home after work, and the wholesale trading in Fort, and Pettah.

It also states that such protests will also obstruct tourism activity, cause traffic congestion, and may affect the economy of the nation.

The Police have also warned against the use of loudspeakers without relevant permits. (NewsWire)
