The arrival of nearly 8500 tourists during the first five days of November has the Tourism Industry hopeful of a successful winter season, the Daily FT reports.

It is understood that the resumption of direct flights between Sri Lanka and Russia has contributed to the most tourist arrivals this month.

According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), approximately 576,000 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka this year.

Sri Lanka Tourism last week officially unveiled its out-of-the-box travel packages to woo around 5,000 global soccer fans to ‘FIFA Zone’ in Negombo, during the four to five-day break between the World Cup matches from 20 November to 18 December.

The joint industry promotional effort will see the Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators Association (SLAITO), Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), along with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau (SLTPB) marketing three special packages starting from $ 650 including travel and accommodation.
