SC orders Police to produce Wasantha Mudalige in court

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has granted leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition that was filed regarding the detention of Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) convenor Wasantha Mudalige.

Issuing the order today (10), the Supreme Court also instructed the Police to produce Mudalige before the courts.

The case has been fixed for 31st January 2023.

Wasantha Mudalige has been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) after being arrested over a protest in Colombo.

He along with two other student leaders were ordered to be detained by the Defence Minister.

While one person has since been released, Mudalige and Ven. Galwewa Siridamma Thera remain in detention. (NewsWire)
