A 14-year-old girl and her father have died after being knocked down by an intoxicated motorist in Pasyala last evening.
The Police said the car that was travelling from Mirigama to Pasyala had knocked down the father and daughter close to the Kotakanda Junction in the Pallewala Police Division along the Mirigama- Pasyala Road.
The driver of the vehicle is reported to have fled the area following the accident.
The injured father and daughter who had been admitted to the Mirigama Hospital had succumbed to injuries. The deceased were identified as a 14-year-old girl and her 54-year-old father from the Kaleliya area.
The two victims had met with the accident after the father had accompanied his child home following tuition classes.
The driver of the car has been arrested by officials from the Pallewala Police Station. Following a medical examination, it was confirmed that the man had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
